RETROSPECT: ANTE UP! BOOZE CRUISE DOWNTOWN SKATE RACE

It was the Summer of 2010, and Kevin Graver and his crew titled “Ante Up” created another great event. This time it was a “booze cruise.” It was a race that began at ShantyTown (in Springfield) and ended at Lomax Lodge located in five points (at the time)  Participants skated through downtown, stopping at 5 different stops where they were to chug 16oz beers and continue on their way. The grand prize for the winner was an XL wife-beater T-Shirt, a bag of peanuts, a couple of swisher blunts, a bottle of Mad Dog, a pack of Newports, a honey bun, and some scratch off tickets. Bruce Tyler won the event despite riding some 50mm wheels street wheels. The rest of us were riding soft cruisers. Nevertheless, it was a one of a kind contest that we will never forget.
